Abstract: A numerically efficient method to establish the pressure distribution underneath freestanding supports of a rectangular planform is developed. The supporting foundation is modeled as a ‘linear spring bed’, and the support base plate is assumed to simulate a rigid body. The support is assumed to be subject to a three-dimensional loading system. A numerical example is used to illustrate the solution procedure.
