Abstract: Designers have proved very ingenious at continuously squeezing more storage capacity from LWR spent fuel pools, though seemingly unending rerack cycles. How has the wet storage industry remained resilient against the marketing onslaught from the dry storage vendors and what are the sources of its continuing strength? What are the potential hazards which may sully the reputation of wet storage as a low risk, low cost fuel management option?
